Tax raid shockwaves felt: Income tax raids uncover Rs 1.20 crore cash from rice millers; Investigations into property and stock anomalies ongoing

Ranchi: The income tax (I-T) department's raids at 40 places belonging to two rice millers in two states, Jharkhand and Bihar, have led to the unearthing of Rs 1.20 crore cash, sources said on Friday, adding that assessment of several properties, jewellery items and food grain stocks was still underway.The raids, which was started by the Ranchi I-T investigation wing on Thursday, was continuing for the second day on Friday on 40 premises of the two rice millers Yogesh Sahu and Gyan Sahu, their company premises and associates.A large team, comprising 500 officials, security personnel and valuers, were engaged in the operation.It is learnt that the unaccounted cash was found from the premises of Yogesh.Cash has also been recovered from some other places, but the I-T teams were checking whether they had been entered in the cash books or not.

Moreover, 10 valuers are determining the worth of the properties, including factories, houses and the food stocks in this regard.During the operation against the food grains traders, the I-T department has also found anomalies in the deduction of tax at source, apart from the non-inclusion of their stocks in the books.The source said the operations were continuing till late evening
