KUALA LUMPUR: Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) will reduce the price of imported white rice (BPI) at its warehouses from RM3,000 to RM2,800 per tonne effective Dec 1, 2024.
MANILA, Philippines — The government’s sale of rice at P42 per kilogram in Kadiwa outlets for vulnerable populations is unsustainable, an agricultural association of farmers said.
The Philippines needs to spend more than P50 billion a year to bring the price of rice to P29 per kilo on "everybody's plate," the Department of Agriculture said on Tuesday.
MANILA, Philippines — A lawmaker noted that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s policy of cutting tariffs on imported rice did not significantly lower the staple’s market price while also causing considerable revenue losses.
THE GOVERNMENT needs to improve the rice industry’s productivity to effectively address the issue of volatile rice prices, analysts said, adding that reducing import tariffs is only a temporary solution.
