FCI to supply 200,000 tonnes of rice to World Food Programme

23 February 2026

Food Corporation of India (FCI) and World Food Programme (WFP) have signed an agreement for supply of rice to eradicate global hunger. Under the agreement, FCI will supply 2 lakh tonnes of rice (up to 25 per cent broken) to WFP at ₹2,800 per quintal.

Both the agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will be valid until 2031, for the supply of rice in support of global humanitarian operations aimed at combating hunger, the food ministry said in a statement. The validity of the MoU will be extended beyond five years by mutual consent.

Though the current price fixed at ₹2,800 per quintal is valid until March 31, 2026, the rate will be revised on an annual basis as both agencies decide.

“Through our partnership with WFP, we are exporting hope, nutrition, and dignity to those facing hunger. This agreement showcases India’s resolve to ensure no one goes hungry. India will continue to stand with the international community in combating malnutrition and food insecurity,” said union food secretary Sanjeev Chopra.

Carl Skau, Deputy Executive Director of WFP said the agreement with India marks a key milestone in fighting global hunger. “India’s support will help WFP reach vulnerable populations with nutritious food more effectively over the next five years,” Skau said.

This partnership reinforces India’s commitment to global food security, strengthens cooperation with WFP in addressing humanitarian needs worldwide, Chopra said.
