Indonesia’s state-owned logistics company Perum BULOG has set a new record in domestic rice procurement, surpassing 4 million tons in rice equivalent as part of its efforts to maintain national food security.
As of October 8, 2026, BULOG had procured 4,115,014 tons of rice equivalent under its Public Service Obligation (PSO) program, reaching 102.88 percent of the government’s 4-million-ton target. The procurement was the highest volume in BULOG’s history, and was celebrated with a thanksgiving event attended by members of House of Representatives Commission IV at the BULOG Nusaniwe Warehouse Complex in Ambon, Maluku.
The event coincided with Commission IV’s recess working visit during the first session of the 2026–2027 parliamentary year. The delegation was led by Commission IV Chair Siti Hediati Soeharto and included other commission members.
“We appreciate BULOG’s hard work in achieving the highest rice procurement volume in the company’s history that reflects our efforts in increasing the market uptake in domestic rice production. We hope to sustain this success and continue to benefit both farmers and the Indonesian public,” Siti Hediati said
She also ensured that strong national procurement figures translate into effective stock management and equal distribution of food supplies across Indonesia. “We want to ensure that the rice stocks are available, properly maintained, and ready to meet public demand. Strong national procurement must meet effective distribution to regional areas so that all communities can benefit from food security,” she added.
BULOG Deputy President Director Major General (Ret.) Dr. Marga Taufiq said surpassing the 4-million-ton mark was a historic milestone that proves the company’s commitment to carry out the government’s mandate. “For the first time in BULOG’s history, domestic procurement of paddy and rice has exceeded 4 million tons in rice equivalent, reaching 4,115,014 tons,” he said.
Marga Taufiq expressed his appreciation for the government’s support, Commission IV, and other stakeholders in strengthening BULOG’s efforts to optimize procurement and manage national food stocks.
“We are grateful for President Prabowo Subianto’s trust in BULOG, as well as the support of Commission IV, the Agriculture Ministry, the National Food Agency, local governments, the Indonesian Military (TNI), farmers, BULOG personnel, and all our partners,” he said.
“This achievement motivates us to improve. Strong procurement must go hand in hand with effective stock management so that government food reserves can maintain food availability and price stability for the public.”
The 2026 record marks a significant milestone in BULOG’s history. Its procurement of 4.11 million tons in rice equivalent has surpassed the 3,191,969 tons recorded in 2025 and broken the previous record of 3.65 million tons set in 2012.
The achievement reflects BULOG’s growing capacity to absorb domestic agricultural output through an optimized procurement network, closer cooperation with farmers and rice mill operators, and improved storage infrastructure across the country
Procuring more than 4 million tons also la a stronger foundation for the Government Rice Reserve (CBP), which supports several national strategic programs. With larger stocks sourced from domestic production, BULOG is better positioned to carry out government assignments, including maintaining food availability, stabilizing rice supplies and prices through the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program, and distributing food assistance to communities in need.
