On November 9, at the 17th Global Rice Trade Conference organized by The Rice Trader in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Ong Cua ST25 rice from Vietnam and Phka Romdoul rice from Cambodia both won the first prize in the "World's Best Rice" contest in 2025.
Thus, up to now, ST25 rice has won the competition 3 times."The best rice in the world". Previously, in 2019, at the "World's Best Rice" contest held in Manila, Philippines, ST25 rice excelled over many strong competitors from countries with long-standing rice growing traditions to win the championship for the first time. In 2023, ST25 continued to affirm its position when it won this award for the second time (first prize).
With its continuous presence in the group of the world's best rice varieties over many years, Ong Cua ST25 rice continues to affirm Vietnam's pioneering position on the world rice map.
Engineer and labor hero Ho Quang Cua is the "father" of the famous ST25 rice variety. ST25 is crossbred from many different rice varieties, inheriting the advantages of the parent varieties. ST25 rice grains are long and slender, clear white, and not chalky. When cooked, the rice has a moderate stickiness, fragrant with pandan leaves and young rice, and a rich sweetness. In particular, ST25 rice retains its stickiness and delicious flavor even when cooled. These superior characteristics have helped ST25 conquer the taste buds of many people, from domestic consumers to international culinary experts.
The success of ST25 does not stop at awards. This rice variety has been widely popularized throughout the country, bringing high economic efficiency to farmers. ST25's yield is stable, it is resistant to pests and diseases, and it adapts to many different farming conditions, especially saline soil in the Mekong Delta. Cultivation of ST25 not only helps increase rice yield and quality but also contributes to environmental protection and reduces the use of pesticides.
