CARD, MAFF, and GIZ Cambodia ink deal for better rice initiative

21 July 2026

The Council for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and GIZ Cambodia have officially signed the Implementation Agreement for the Better Rice Initiative Cambodia (BRIC) project.

The signing ceremony was signed on July 16 under the presidency of Ouk Rabun, Senior Minister, Chairman of the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development, and Chairman of the National Committee for the Promotion of the ‘One Village, One Product’ Movement.

The agreement on the implementation of the “Bridge Improvement in Cambodia (BRIC)” initiative serves as a new driving force to increase farmers’ incomes and develop sustainable rice production.

The partnership accelerates the transition towards climate-resilient, circular food systems by enhancing resource efficiency across the rice value chain, reducing agricultural waste, and boosting economic opportunities for rural communities.

This agreement solidifies the partnership between the Royal Government of Cambodia and Germany in advancing sustainable, climate-resilient, and circular agricultural development. Under this framework, the partners will collaborate closely to promote innovative solutions that improve resource efficiency, strengthen rural livelihoods, and transition towards resilient food systems.
