Palace vows continued rice distribution to poor

21 July 2026

MALACAÑANG on Sunday reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to make sure no Filipino will go hungry, with pertinent agencies implementing programs for those most in need.

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto made the assurance during the distribution of rice to 55,000 families in Oriental Mindoro over the weekend.

“It is important to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that none of our fellow citizens go hungry,” Recto said in Filipino.

He added that the program also supports local agriculture by purchasing palay, or unhusked rice, from local farmers.

Funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), the program provides poor families with regular allocations of 10 kilograms of rice.

Local government units oversee the distribution using their population databases to ensure the assistance reaches qualified beneficiaries

Recto said the government aims to channel around P1.5 trillion through the National Tax Allotment (NTA) to barangay (villages), municipalities, cities and provinces in the coming years.

Oriental Mindoro Gov. Humerlito Dolor thanked Recto for supporting the province’s agriculture sector, saying the initiative promotes the use of locally produced rice while providing benefits to both farmers and consumers.
