MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III on Monday said that one million rice farmers will receive P7,000 each in direct cash aid under the 2026 national budget.
"I gladly announce that in our 2026 national budget, our [rice] farmers numbering one million nationwide will receive direct cash assistance," Dy said on Monday at the joint hearing of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food and the Committee on Ways and Means.
He said the distribution of cash aid “shows the determination of our beloved president to immediately respond to the suffering of farmers and simultaneously make long-term reforms."
“We also asked the President that all forms of subsidies from the Department of Agriculture, like seed subsidy, will be given in cash so that farmers can easily and directly benefit from it,” he added.
Dy, who has long championed the welfare of farmers and the agriculture sector, said many growers in his home province of Isabela sell palay for as low as P8 per kilo, far below the P16 to P18 needed to recover production costs.
