AVERAGE retail prices of rice and pork nationwide dropped in mid-October, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Special rice sold for P56.55 per kilogram (kg) in Oct. 15-17 — lower than P56.74/kg in Oct. 1-5 and P56.84/kg price in Sept. 15-17.
It was also lower than its October 2024 levels at P63.88/kg.
Fresh pork meat with bones was cheaper at P320.89/kg in Oct. 15-17 — compared to P323.58/kg in Oct. 1-5 and P327.03/kg in Sept. 15-17.
However, it was more expensive than the P298.71/kg and P298.13/kg in the second and first phases of October 2024, respectively.
A kilogram of galunggong retailed at P237.77 in mid-October. This was an increase from the P232.90/kg in early October and the P232.37/kg in mid-September.
Likewise, this was more than the average cost in the same month last year at P214.39/kg in mid-October and P214.98/kg in early October.
Carrots sold for P182.91/kg in mid-October — lower than the P197.41/kg and P192.87/kg in early October and mid-September, respectively.
But it was higher compared to October 2024 at P137.21/kg (Oct. 15-17) and P135.39/kg (Oct. 1-5).
Native garlic cost P181.52/kg in Oct. 15-17 — cheaper than P183.50/kg in early October and P182.38/kg. in mid-September.
It was a bit higher, though, than P172.74/kg in the second phase and P172.80/kg in the first phase of October.
Calamansi retailed at P81.72/kg in the second phase of October, or an increase from P80.50/kg in Oct. 1-5, but a decrease from P82.25/kg price in Sept. 15-17.
It was higher than P75.20/kg and P78.24/kg in the second and first phases of October 2024.
Meanwhile, refined sugar sold for P83.16/kg mid-October — down from P83.37/kg in early October and P83.57/kg in mid-September.
Likewise, it was lower than P84.96/kg and P85.06/kg in the second and first phases of October 2024, respectively. Giselle P. Jordan
