Purchase agreements in place for 3,000 tonnes of sustainable Phka Rumduol paddy

20 November 2025

WCS Cambodia has signed a cooperation framework with Primalis Corporation Ltd to support the production and supply of rice verified by the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP).

WCS announced on November 18 that the signing took place during the closing ceremony of the Cambodia Agriculture Forum & Expo 2025 (CAFE25) on November 14. The event was presided over by Prak David, secretary of state at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, representing agriculture minister Dith Tina. It was attended by government officials, representatives of development partners, NGOs, business leaders and farmers.

The organisation described the signing as a positive step for farmers engaged in sustainable rice cultivation. WCS Cambodia promotes SRP-standard rice farming in key biodiversity areas through the IBIS Rice wildlife-friendly programme, offering premium prices to farmers who grow crops in ways that protect wildlife and avoid forest destruction.

To expand these efforts, WCS Cambodia and Primalis Corporation Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support farmers in producing up to 3,000 tonnes of SRP-compliant Phka Rumduol rice from January to December 2026, and to cooperate with relevant partners on verification processes under the required standards.

WCS highlighted that rice is vital to Cambodia’s economy, poverty reduction and food security, and that global markets increasingly demand traceable and environmentally responsible products. Sustainable rice production helps increase farmers' income while strengthening Cambodia’s competitiveness in the international rice market.
