MANILA, Philippines — Starting May 13, the Department of Agriculture (DA) will start selling rice for P20 per kilo in 32 Kadiwa outlets in Metro Manila.
At a press briefing yesterday, DA deputy spokesperson Joycel Panlilio said the department and the National Food Authority repositioned the NFA rice stocks ahead of the P20 rice rollout in the National Capital Region (NCR).
“Definitely, we will start selling P20 per kilo of rice right after election day. The number of Kadiwa sites in the NCR increased to 32 from 18,” Panlilio said. “We will roll out the program in Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.”
Panlilio said senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, indigents and beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program can avail themselves of rice at P20 per kilo.
“They can buy a maximum of 30 kilos per month,” she said.
The DA said local government units in the Visayas can start selling rice for P20 a kilo after the ayuda ban imposed by the Commission on Elections from May 2 to 12.
