A Japan-based company affiliated with South Korean agricultural cooperatives says it has imported rice from South Korea to Japan.
The company, established 26 years ago, says it imported two tons of rice in March for the first time, and plans to import 20 more tons in May. It says the rice was sold on its website, major e-commerce operators' sites, and at supermarkets.
One 4-kilogram bag of rice sold on its website for about 29 dollars including consumption tax and shipping. The company says all the rice it imported in March has been sold. It says it will consider its next step based on demand in Japan.
South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reports the country's rice exports to Japan this year are expected to hit the highest since 1990, when statistics on them started being taken.
