The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia was still importing rice in October 2025.
Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini said that in October 2025, the volume of imported rice that entered reached 40.7 thousand tons with a value of 19.1 million US dollars or around Rp. 317.93 billion (at an exchange rate of Rp. 16,646).
"In October 2025, rice imports amounted to 40.7 thousand tons with a value of 19.1 million US dollars," he said at a press conference, Monday, December 1.
Cumulatively, Indonesia's rice imports from January 2025 to October 2025 were recorded at 364.3 thousand tons with a value of 178.5 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp37.84 trillion (exchange rate of Rp16,646).
He added that the main rice supplier countries from January 2025 to October 2025 were Myanmar, Thailand, and India.
Previously, Chairman of Commission IV DPR RI Titiek Soeharto emphasized that there was no tolerance for any party who tried to import rice into Indonesia.
The Titiek statement responded to the findings of 250 tons of rice from Thailand that entered through Sabang and is currently being handled by the government.
In a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, said Titiek, his party had asked directly about the case. According to him, the government already has a clear policy that Indonesia will no longer open the tap for rice imports.
"We also asked the Minister about 250 tons of rice imports from Thailand. This has been announced by the government that there are no rice imports, we are already self-sufficiency in rice," he told reporters, in Jakarta, Monday, November 24.
"So whoever wants to try to import rice, we ask that it be prosecuted. Because this is the government's discretion, there is no import and we are self-sufficiency. Don't try anything," he said.
