STUTTGART — Officials from USA Rice, including President and CEO Peter Bachmann, met with the board of Riceland Foods at the company’s headquarters in Stuttgart last week.
Bachmann provided a number of updates during the meeting, including industry advocacy around additional economic assistance for the 2025 crop and efforts to secure rice-specific tariff increases to stem the flow of imports.
Bachmann also addressed U.S. Jasmine rice promotions, additional crop insurance options for aromatic rice and other topics.
Riceland Foods was founded in 1921 and is the country’s largest farmer-owned rice cooperative. The company announced last month that it would temporarily close nine drying facilities for the 2026 crop year, including locations in Fair Oaks and Parkin. The decision was made due to several factors, including the smallest rice acreage planted this year since the early 1970s.
