According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), five departments accounted for 89.8% of Peru's paddy rice production in May 2026. INEI head Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores reported that production volumes in Piura, Lambayeque, Amazonas, La Libertad, and San Martín rose compared to the same month in 2025. Nationwide, paddy rice output reached 889,557 metric tons, a 60.7% increase year-on-year, driven by larger harvested areas and better yields due to favorable thermal conditions.

Corn and Poultry Production

Yellow corn production grew in Áncash, Cajamarca, Ica, San Martín, and Lima, which together contributed 66.8% of the national total. The country produced 82,526 metric tons of yellow corn in May 2026, up 3.1% from May 2025, supported by higher harvests and strong domestic and agro-industrial demand. Poultry production increased 2.2% nationally, with Arequipa, La Libertad, Áncash, and Lima representing 85.2% of total output, driven by higher placements of broiler chickens and turkeys.

Copper and Mining Output

Copper extraction rose in Áncash, Lima, Huánuco, Arequipa, Huancavelica, and Pasco, which together accounted for 36.2% of national production. Total copper output increased 2.6% year-on-year, supported by higher extraction volumes at companies including Antamina, Sociedad Minera Corona, Colquisiri, Los Quenuales, Cerro Verde, Shouxin Perú, Condestable, Santa Luisa, and Minera Argentum. Production of gold, iron, and tin also rose, while zinc, silver, lead, and molybdenum declined.

Electricity Generation and Tax Revenue

Electricity production expanded 5.8% nationally, with Arequipa, Puno, Lima, Huánuco, and Junín contributing 62.0% of total generation. The increase was driven by higher thermoelectric output at plants such as Aguaytía, Generación Eten, and Chilca I, as well as growth in non-conventional solar energy. Hydroelectric generation fell at facilities including Machupicchu, Cañón del Pato, and Carhuaquero. Tax revenue rose in 22 departments, with Lima accounting for 87.0% of the national total. Nationwide, internal tax collections reached 14,702,501,000 soles, up 23.2% from May 2025, boosted by higher payments of income tax, general sales tax, and the special mining tax.
