The President of Rice Millers Association of Nigeria, Peter Dama says without targeted support, many farmers may exit the sector entirely in the near future while noting local production won’t meet demand so imports could rise to 3.5 million tonnes this year. He further highlights unless there’s intervention on smuggling, input subsidies among other support, the country should expect smaller cultivated area and lower paddy output this season, even as milled rice stays cheaper for buyers.
