Multi-national agencies estimate global grains output at record high in 2025-26 season
India’s rice production will likely rise to a record high in the 2025-26 season (September 2025-August 2026) even as global grains production could rise to a fresh peak of 2,375 million tonnes (mt), forecasts by international agencies say. India’s wheat crop this season has been estimated at a record high, too.
According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), rice production in the 2025-26 season has been forecast at a record 151 mt (milled basis), up 1 per cent from last year, and 11 per cent from the 5-year average.
“Harvested area is forecast at 51.0 million hectares (mh), unchanged from last year’s record high, and up 7 per cent from the 5-year average. The yield (rough basis) is estimated at a record 4.44 tonnes/hectare,” it said.
