DA recommends imported rice price at P46- P48/kilo

11 February 2026

The Department of Agriculture said the recommended retail price of imported rice should ideally range from P46 to P48 per kilogram. This is an increase from the previous P43 maximum suggested retail price imposed on earlier imports, but remains below the P50 mark, the agency’s target for market stability.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. revealed the update Monday on the sidelines of the induction of the 2026 Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines officers at Frabelle Corporate Plaza.

“The target price for the common DP-8 variety is around P48, but there are cheaper options at P46 depending on the variant and country of origin,” Tiu Laurel said. He noted that imported rice from Myanmar or Pakistan is generally cheaper, while Vietnam and premium varieties cost more.

He added that the retail prices of premium rice at P52 to P60 per kilogram are “too high,” while DP-8 should remain at P46 to P48.

The DA estimates the country will need to import about 3.8 million tons of rice this year, factoring in buffer stocks to ensure supply security.
