Around 85 per cent of paddy plantation has been completed across districts of Gandaki Province by the last week of July, according to the Province Agriculture Development Directorate.
So far, transplantation of the paddy seedlings have been completed on about 80,000 hectares of farmland, out of an estimated 94,000 hectares targeted for this season. Baglung district led the progress with 95 per cent of its target achieved, followed by Lamjung at 93.18 per cent, while Nawalpur and Gorkha lagged slightly behind with just over 78 per cent.
This transplantation has been delayed in rainfed areas due to insufficient rainfall. According to the directorate, most remaining areas are likely to complete transplantation within a week if weather conditions improve.
Paddy farming is practiced in all districts of Gandaki Province except Mustang and Manang.
