Pakistani Rice Exporters Embrace Quality to Counter India's Market Return

27 June 2025

Despite India's return to the international rice market, Pakistani exporters remain competitive by focusing on quality over price wars. Employing a strategy to maintain high-end market positions, they face challenges from a decline in domestic rice production affecting future exports.

In a strategic maneuver to maintain its edge in the global rice market, Pakistan is focusing on quality-led exports. Despite India's recent lifting of its rice export ban, Pakistani exporters are confident of achieving their export targets by prioritizing quality over price competition.

Leading exporter Waqar Ahmed underscores that this approach, free from direct price wars with India's cheaper offerings, aims to preserve Pakistan's stronghold in high-value markets such as the United Kingdom and European Union.

However, challenges loom as a decline in Pakistan's rice production may tighten supplies, potentially leading to a significant drop in export quantities by the next quarter.
