SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan, Philippines — The farmer’s group 4SM Agri Multi-Purpose Cooperative, using its own rolling stores, has started selling rice at only P32 per kilo here.
Simeon Sioson, 4SM Agri Multi-Purpose Cooperative chairman, said the low-priced commodity was initially made available only in Barangay Lambakin under the group’s “Alay sa Masa” program.
Sioson said a clamor for cheaper rice in their town made the group decide to sell their farmer-member’s harvest to nearby communities.
The cooperative’s rolling store is scheduled to sell 300 sacks of commercial rice today in Barangay Sta. Rita, in front of the San Miguel warehouse of the National Food Authority San Miguel.
Sioson said the store would also be selling the staple to residents of Barangay Bulualto on Tuesday.
“They (consumers) can buy from one kilo to a maximum of five kilos,” he added.
Sioson said the group’s initiative would continue until their palay stocks are depleted.
