A.P. Minister warns of strict action against rice millers for troubling farmers

16 April 2025

The government is ensuring that paddy farmers receive the price of their produce within 24 hours of procurement, says Manohar

Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar has said that stern action will be taken against the millers if they flout norms pertaining to paddy procurement at the support price fixed by the government, and trouble farmers. The announcement came in response to complaints by farmers against several millers.

The Minister, along with NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha and Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad, inspected a paddy procurement centre at Gollapudi market yard on Monday (April 14, 2025). He also toured Rayanapadu and Pydurupadu and spoke to farmers.

The Minister pointed out that the NDA government had always supported rice millers and that dues amounting to ₹400 crore had also been cleared.

“But, the government will take strict action if millers trouble farmers. Farmers can sell their paddy at the support price at their nearest Rythu Seva Kendra,” he said.

The Minister said that 38 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, worth ₹8,300 crore, were procured from 6 lakh farmers in the State during kharif.

The government is ensuring that the amount reaches a farmer within 24 hours of procuring paddy. In NTR district, the Minister assured the farmers that all paddy would be procured and that there was no need for any farmer to worry.

After the last procurement of paddy for the kharif was made on March 31, the government immediately shifted focus to Nellore district where not a single bag of paddy was procured in the past two years, Mr. Manohar said, adding that the government had recently procured 1,30,000 metric tonnes of paddy.
