Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation, a state-owned company in South Korea, purchased approximately 45.200 metric tonnes of rice from the United States as part of an international tender which closed on August 8.
It can take a few weeks for the corporation to make a decision on a tender.
The main purchase was non-glutinous milled rice. About 30,000 tons of the product will be imported from Vietnam, and the remainder from Thailand.
According to traders, the Vietnamese purchase included 11,000 tons purchased at $380.00 per ton with freight included (c&f), 15000 tons at $376.30 per ton and 4,000 tonnes at $361.80.
The majority of the Thai purchases were made at between $384.00 and 378.80 per ton c&f. Some specialist grades, however, were purchased at higher prices.
The tender called for the arrival of South Korean rice in several consignments from November 2025 to June 2026. The corporation buys rice regularly for future delivery.
The reports reflect the assessments of traders, and it is still possible to estimate prices and volume later. Michael Hogan is the reporter. Mark Potter (Editing)
