THE Philippines and South Korea marked a significant milestone in agricultural cooperation with the inauguration and turnover of a modern rice seed processing facility and a warehouse with cold storage at the DA-PhilRice Central Experiment Station.
The program began with the unveiling of markers and ribbon-cutting ceremonies, followed by congratulatory messages from both sides.
A formal signing ceremony transferred the facilities and equipment to the Philippine government.
Eduardo Jimmy Quilang led a project briefing and video presentation, outlining achievements and proposals for follow-up initiatives.
The newly inaugurated facilities, developed under the ongoing official development assistance project “Improving the Rice Supply Chain to Ensure the Quality of Seeds and Milled Rice for Distribution and Buffer Stocks in the Philippines,” feature an integrated processing line and cold storage to enhance efficiency and seed quality.
The upgrades shorten processing time, address challenges during the rainy harvest season, and extend seed preservation for more reliable nationwide distribution.
This four-year project (2023–2026), with a total investment of $4.5 million, has established processing and storage facilities at CES, Isabela, and Batac and supplied agricultural equipment and capacity-building programs.
Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to a stronger, stable and high-quality rice supply chain as the project enters its final year.
