In the last several months, the Rice Footprint report from UC Davis has been rolled out to our conservation and water partners. The response has been very positive, with great comments on the importance of rice habitat and the groundbreaking multi-species look at working agricultural lands.
That work complete, we are now engaging the legislature and the administration – briefing staff at California Natural Resources, Secretary Ross at CDFA and an upcoming staff briefing in the California Senate.
This summer, we will be seeking formal support from our partners for the objectives in the report – rice production at 470,000 acres or more annually and never less than 375,000 acres. And every acre working as hard as it can to support wildlife.
