NATIONAL average retail prices of rice and chicken went up in early December, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Well-milled rice cost P48.91 per kilogram (kg) in Dec. 1 to 5, compared to P47.90/kg in Nov. 15 to 17 and P47.63/kg in Nov. 1 to 5.
However, these were lower than P54.97/kg and P54.71/kg in the second and first phases of December 2024, respectively.
Dressed chicken was more expensive at P210.67/kg in early December compared to P208.42/kg in mid-November and P208.44/kg in early November.
It was also higher than its December 2024 prices of P207.80/kg and P204.69/kg in the second and first phases, respectively.
Galunggong sold for P244.90/kg in early December, lower than the P247.86/kg in mid-November, but higher than its early November price of P242.83/kg.
It was also more expensive compared to December 2024 prices at P219.57/kg and P217.59/kg in the second and first phases, respectively.
Baguio beans retailed higher at P236.93kg in early December from P182.78/kg and P138.32kg in the second and first phases of November 2025.
It was likewise more pricey than its P166.41/kg and P169.51/kg levels in the second and first phases of December 2024.
Red onions cost P247.44/kg in early December, higher than P208.48/kg and P175.30/kg in the second and first phases of November, as well as in the second and first phases of December 2024 at P133.27/kg and P129.11/kg, respectively.
Latundan banana sold higher at P56.16/kg in the first phase of December from P54.66/kg in mid-November, and also from P54.73/kg price in early November.
This was the same case in the second and first phases of December 2024 when the fruit cost P52.76/kg and P51.92/kg, respectively.
Brown sugar, however, was cheaper at P72.76/kg in early December compared to P73.24/kg and P73.52/kg in the second and first phases of November. It was also lower than P74.60/kg in the second and first phases of December 2024. Giselle P. Jordan
