The National Food Authority (NFA) confirmed Monday that one of its warehouses in Occidental Mindoro was affected by flooding over the weekend, but assured that rice stocks are safe nationwide despite the inclement weather.
"Tama po 'yan, meron po tayong opisina at bodega sa isang compound sa Occidental Mindoro... binaha po 'yung compound. Pero 'yung lamang pong labas ang binaha at ang ating mga stocks wala pong nasira since ang mga design po ng ating bodega ay elevated," said Dr. Larry del Rosario Lacson, NFA administrator, in a Super Radyo dzBB interview.
(That’s right, we have an office and warehouse in Occidental Mindoro... the compound was flooded, but only outside. Our stocks weren’t damaged since our warehouses are elevated.)
According to Lacson, water levels have begun to subside and said only one NFA warehouse was affected by the inclement weather being experienced by several parts of the country.
"So far sa lahat ng ating mga bodega, isa lang ‘yung napaulat na merong binaha. Lahat po ng ating bodega ay ayos po lahat. At walang nasira," he noted.
(So far, only one of our warehouses was reported to experience flooding. All others are in good condition, and nothing was damaged.)
Lacson also added that several local government units (LGUs), including Puerto Princesa ity, have already requested stocks of rice as part of their disaster preparation.
"May mga LGUs na nagre-request para sa kalamidad... kahit wala pong bagyo, nag-prepositioning po sila," he said.
(Some LGUs are requesting rice for emergencies... even without a typhoon, they’re already pre-positioning supplies.)
He confirmed the agency is coordinating closely with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to pre-release rice as part of relief efforts.
"Marami po (stocks). Wala po tayong dapat pangambahan... Kahit sabihin natin libu-libong sako, we can release anytime. Ready po ang NFA sa buong kapuluan," he assured.
(We have plenty of stocks. There’s nothing to worry about... Even if we need to release thousands of sacks, we can do so anytime. The NFA is ready across the entire country.) — Sherylin Untalan/RF, GMA Integrated News
