Bulog doubles rice stock in Sumatra to support disaster response

02 December 2025

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The State Logistics Agency (Bulog) will double rice stock in disaster-affected areas in Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, in anticipation of prolonged emergency response.

Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said this measure followed internal assessment indicated that disaster impact could widen and response times may take longer.

"We are doubling our rice stock in these disaster areas," Rizal said during a central and regional coordination meeting for Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 preparation, monitored online in Jakarta on Monday.

Bulog also ensured that rice aid would be distributed optimally to regional governments in need, without exception.

The distribution was the result of a coordination meeting between Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman and Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, where regional heads only need to submit a request letter to the Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), with copies to Bulog's central and regional offices.

To ensure smooth distribution, Rizal said, all Bulog directors have been assigned to be on the ground in affected provinces.

They are tasked to oversee aid distribution and ensuring Bulog's logistics are properly targeted and reach the people most in need.

Bulog also reaffirmed its commitment to continue close coordination with regional governments at the provincial, district, and city levels, which continue daily monitoring to safeguard food supply amid the risk of disruption from disasters.

"We monitor daily and provide a quick response. We check prices and stocks everyday across the country with support from the central field task force and regional governments," he added.
