MANILA, Philippines – The rice stock inventory of the National Food Authority (NFA) rose by 485.1 percent in January compared to the same period last year, recent Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data show.
The rice trade between the Philippines and Vietnam is facing disruption as a sharp decline in prices has led to delays and renegotiations of significant purchases.
CONSUMERS will soon be able to buy rice at P35 per kilo with the declaration of a food security emergency, the National Food Authority (NFA) announced on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The government previously increased the government purchase price to Rp 6,500 (40 US cents) per kilogram, which was deemed a reasonable figure to ensure welfare for smallholders.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday announced a downward adjustment in the maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for imported rice, as the agency seeks to reduce this even further moving forward.
