Thailand Rice Convention 2025 – “Global Rice from Thai Legacy"

23 May 2025

From the Land of Golden Fields… to the Grain that Nourishes the World

From the Threads of Culture and Wisdom… to the Economic Crop Generating Vast National Revenue

"Rice" has long been a life-sustaining grain for the Thai people. It is not only a staple food and a key economic crop, but also deeply intertwined with beliefs, traditions, and rituals.  It serves as the foundation of rich cultural heritage across the diverse regions of Thailand.  Furthermore, rice is one of Thailand’s most important agricultural exports and a major driver of the national economy. As such, the Thai government consistently prioritizes the promotion and development of the rice industry.

To align with government policies, the Ministry of Commerce and the Department of Foreign Trade have emphasized enhancing the Thai rice industry through the policy of “Market-Driven, Innovation-Enhanced, Income-Boosted.” This includes organizing promotional activities such as international trade fairs, overseas trade promotions, and outbound trade missions comprising both public and private sector representatives. These initiatives aim to create greater trade opportunities and expand the global reach of Thai rice. These activities also help strengthen relationships with key trading partners and emerging markets, which in turn fosters continued demand for Thai rice.

In 2025, the Department of Foreign Trade will host the 10th Thailand Rice Convention 2025 (TRC 2025) on May 26, 2025. This marks the first event since 2019, following a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The event aims to reaffirm Thailand’s role as one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of high-quality rice under the theme “Global Rice from Thai Legacy.”  This concept reflects the deep roots of local wisdom, the diversity of rice varieties, and centuries-old cultural heritage. It showcases how the Thai rice industry is being elevated through innovation, technology, and international safety standards to meet the expectations of modern consumers while supporting economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

TRC 2025 will also serve as a global platform for importers, exporters, academics, policymakers from various countries, and Thai farmers to meet, exchange knowledge, and collaborate in shaping a stable and sustainable future for the global rice industry.  Additionally, it will reinforce the image and global confidence in the quality standards of Thai rice, in line with the phrase: “Think Rice, Think Thailand.”
