EASTERN ARKANSAS — Following recent closures by Riceland Foods, Producers Rice Mill could also temporarily pause operations at some of its rice drying facilities, according to the USA Rice Federation.
In an interview with Rice Farming Magazine, USA Rice CEO Peter Bachmann said mill operators have indicated that “there isn’t enough rice in the ground to justify keeping the lights on” at certain facilities.
A final decision has not been announced.
Riceland Foods recently closed several rice drying locations across eastern Arkansas, including facilities in Des Arc, Dumas, Fair Oaks, Knobel, Parkin and Tuckerman.
