Public told to brace for higher price of rice

18 March 2026

The Department of Agriculture-Davao (DA-11) has urged the public to brace for a possible increase in the prices of rice and other agricultural products amid the skyrocketing prices of petroleum products.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, DA-11 Regional Executive Director, Macario Gonzaga, said one of the expected impacts of the rising fuel prices is the increase in the cost of rice and other basic commodities.

Gonzaga added that some rice importers have already manifested that a price increase may be unavoidable as the cost of procurement has gone up, along with transportation and trucking expenses from their suppliers to various markets.

However, based on DA-11’s monitoring, there has been no significant increase yet in the prices of agricultural products in major markets across the region.

DA earlier warned traders not to take advantage of the situation, adding that penalties await those found engaging in price manipulation, including hoarding and profiteering.
