That figure would mark a three percent increase over the 31 million tonnes forecast for this year.
National rice stockpiling, according to the minister, has reached the highest level in five years, with 1.9 million to 2 million tonnes currently held in reserve and more than 6 million distributed so far this year.
“So we [stockpiled] more than 8 million [tonnes of rice],” he said after a meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman during a press conference in Jakarta on the same day stated that the ministry has targeted rice production of 32 million tonnes in 2025 as the government aims to stop importing the staple food.
“Thirty-two million tonnes in a year, yes. God willing, in 2025,” he said, as reported by Detik Finance.
