Bulog raises rice security issue in IIRC 2024

20 September 2024

Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - Perum Bulog raised important issues such as climate change, economic disruption and geopolitical tensions that complicate the rice production and distribution landscape at the Indonesia International Rice Conference (IIRC) in Nusa Dua, Bali, Thursday.

Bulog's Director of Transformation and Institutional Relations Sonya Mamoriska said Bulog's initiative was a form of awareness to present the issue of food security from rice products amidst the many global challenges that hit the world.

"Resilience in this context means more than just survival, it means being able to survive amidst difficulties by developing and implementing innovative solutions that can maintain rice production in facing these global challenges," said Sonya.

Sonya said Bulog invited various parties involved in the rice industry to share information and find solutions to face global challenges.

These interrelated challenges underscore the urgent need to take a resilient and adaptive approach to rice production.

"We must recognize that traditional farming and distribution methods may no longer be adequate in the face of this growing threat. It is clear that to ensure the future of rice, we need innovative, sustainable, and collaborative solutions that can help us address this global challenge," said Sonya.

Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, East Asia and Pacific World Bank Carolyn Turk said that rice is a commodity that meets the world's food needs, especially Indonesia.

"We hope that through this conference we can find solutions to create sustainable food and life," said Carolyn.

The Indonesian National Food Agency (Bapanas) represented by the Director of Distribution and Food Reserves Rachmi Widiarini also said that in facing this global challenge, Bapanas also hopes to collaborate with food industry players to find solutions to the rice problem.

"We hope that the collaboration of Bulog with all its stakeholders can strengthen and through this conference we can work together and formulate ideas to be able to face global challenges," said Rachmi
