China has lifted tariffs on goods from 53 countries to strengthen ties with Africa. The only exception is Eswatini, which recognizes Taiwan. This will allow African goods to flow more easily to China, while reducing the influence of the United States and Europe. Analysts say China is simultaneously boosting trade and sending a political message—bringing Africa under its influence.
