Ahead of Ramadan, Food Adviser Ali Imam Mojumder has announced an initiative to support low-income families by distributing rice at an affordable price of Tk30 per kilogram.
As part of the "Food-Friendly Program", 5 million families will receive 15kg of rice each during the months of March and April, totaling 300,000 tons of rice being distributed.
The food adviser shared these details during a press briefing at the DC Conference, held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday. He emphasized that this initiative is aimed at providing essential support to families during the holy month of Ramadan.
"To ensure the proper implementation of this program, the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been instructed to oversee the distribution process," said Mojumder. "In addition, magistrates in Dhaka and Chittagong will be stationed in the field to supervise the program."
In response to questions from journalists, the adviser said: "The administration works according to how it is utilized. We hope that the upcoming election, which will be held under the interim government, will be a fair election, as it will be conducted through the administration."
He added: "All the acceptable and controversial elections held in the country have been conducted by the administration. They will work in accordance with how they are used. The interim government will not use them for any unlawful activities. The interim government is committed to holding a fair election."
Regarding land-related issues, the advisor said: "80% of the work on digital land registration (e-Namjari) will be completed by March 10. The work of digitizing land mutation is also ongoing. The interim government is taking all necessary measures to stop the harassment of people regarding land issues. Instructions have been given to the DCs to assist in this process."
