PM Modi lauds TN farmers: ‘World has yet not achieved what Tamil Nadu has done in paddy’

04 December 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has continued his recent streak of praise for farmers, especially those from Tamil Nadu, following his visit to the South India Natural Farming Summit 2025 held in Coimbatore on 19 November. After lauding them in the latest Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister has now penned an extensive blog on LinkedIn, accompanied by a YouTube video capturing his interactions with farmer groups, moments of laughter, and photo sessions during the event.

Calling the summit “a memory for a lifetime,” PM Modi stressed the transformation underway in India’s agricultural ecosystem, driven by young innovators, traditional cultivators and farmer-producer organisations (FPOs).

In his blog, the Prime Minister highlighted the vibrancy and commitment of the farming community he met in Tamil Nadu. “This Summit in Coimbatore will forever remain a part of my memory! It indicated a shift in mindset, imagination and confidence with which India’s farmers and agri-entrepreneurs are shaping the future of agriculture,” he wrote.

He described meeting farmers who manage multi-layered farms, preserve indigenous rice varieties, train thousands of cultivators, and run innovative enterprises, from seaweed-based biofertilizers to nutrient-rich biochar. Some farmers, he noted, had even left high-paying corporate jobs to pursue natural farming full-time.

Tamil Nadu leading in paddy production

In the YouTube video shared alongside the blog, the Prime Minister singled out Tamil Nadu’s achievements in rice cultivation, saying, “The world has yet not achieved what Tamil Nadu has done in the paddy.”

This praise aligns with India’s wider push toward sustainable agriculture under the National Mission on Natural Farming, which has already connected lakhs of farmers with eco-friendly practices.

A call for “one acre, one season”

PM Modi emphasised the need for gradual adoption of natural farming techniques, urging cultivators to begin small, “I encouraged farmers to begin with ‘one acre, one season.’ The outcomes from even a small plot can build confidence and inspire larger adoption.”

He also pointed out the critical role of FPOs and agri-startups in empowering small farmers, promoting millets and reducing input costs.

The YouTube video shows the Prime Minister being warmly welcomed by farmers, cracking jokes and taking photographs with young agri-innovators, capturing a light and personal side of his visit.

The Prime Minister ended his blog by inviting citizens to share more stories of natural farming innovators, “If you know of teams working on natural farming, do let me know too!”
