SPEAKER Martin Romualdez on Tuesday said the House of Representatives' Committee on Agriculture will expedite the hearings on the amendments to the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL).
He said the goal is to bring down the price of rice from P45 to P50 per kilo to P30 per kilo by June.
"We will do this by having the NFA (National Food Authority) bring to the market affordable rice at P30 per kilo. We would rush these amendments," Romualdez said.
He added he was in favor of amending the RTL but against its abrogation.
He said the initiative was in line with the objective of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make the price of rice affordable to all Filipinos.
House Deputy Majority Leader for Communications and ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo said he believes the Congress will be able to amend the RTL before it adjourns on May 24.
