CROWLEY, La. (NEWS 15) — The 88th International Rice Festival got underway on Thursday, October 16, bringing one of Louisiana's oldest and largest agricultural celebrations back to Crowley.
This festival, which began in 1937, annually honors the rice industry and its farmers. It runs through Sunday, October 19.
The festival features two sound stages filled with live entertainment. Past performers have included Percy Sledge and Joe Diffie, alongside local artists like Wayne Toups and Geno Delafosse.
Festival-goers can enjoy a variety of activities, including The Classic Car Show, the Crowley High 5k Run Walk, and the Fiddle and Accordion Contest. The Rice Festival Queen’s Contest and the Rice Eating Contest are also crowd favorites, along with two parades: a Children's Parade on Friday and The Grand Parade on Saturday.
The festival continues to celebrate rice as a vital part of the community's economy and culture.
